Why can't I get text next to my photos like I did the first time? Someone asked me if the streets of Aktau are pretty. I took a picture of a little shop along my route that had planted flowers to beautify the area. The next picture is the street I walk down to get to the sea. The big section of dirt is very typical on all the streets. They have sidewalks, but also big areas of dirt along the sidewalks. When it is windy it is like walking in a sandstorm. I have no idea what they will be like in the rain or snow. The 3rd picture is taken of a small park that I walk by coming home. The forbidden sheets picture - I never got the cleaning lady and the landlord mystery figured out. I did find out that they are not married like I thought. His wife is in Moscow. The second and third week I was here I kept coming home to little mysteries. One day my toilet lid was up and someone had used the toilet. I just figured the landlord had been there fixing the "broken" things. A few days later I came home and the toilet paper had been dropped in the toilet and was sitting there sopping wet. That was too weird and my director called the landlord and he reported that it wouldn't happen again. (And I haven't noticed anything else) Then I started making up the story that the landlord and cleaning lady were having an affair in my apartment while I was gone, but that is totally made up. They both had made such a big deal about looking in my wardrobe and going through the sheets and blankets that had been left that I was very confused on whether the sheets were for my use or their storage unit. I had found those beautiful sheets and wanted in the worse way to use them, so the rebel in me snuck them on my bed. The day the maid came I took all these extra pains to make sure that she didn't see any sheets hanging under the cover. I couldn't wait to see what she would do when she discovered I was using those sheets. Nothing happened. I've been using them for a couple of weeks. The true test will be when I put them in the laundry because she does all my laundry for me. The sheep picture is the last picture ever taken of that sheep. I was surprised to see it tied up beside our school. I found out that it is very common to butcher sheep in people's backyards for funerals, weddings, or birthday parties. What can I say? We used to send our male goats and sheep to be butchered back in Kentucky. It just seems really cruel. Maybe I just need to take a stand and not eat any more meat.
