This is me overlooking Karaglye, the deepest depression in Kazakhstan. I am so thankful that Marcy gave me her coats and sweaters when she left town, because I had mine packed but took them out of my suitcase because of the weight.
I took this picture for my sister Rose because she loves rocks.
This is Medina who works at my school as the business manager. She knows both Russian and English, so she is a huge support system for doctor appointments, travel agents, etc. I wish I could flip the picture around

This picture got on here twice I believe, but I don't know how to delete it at this point. I meant to have a picture of Dinara and me at the depression.

I finally got the picture of my lovely outhouse on my blog.

  1. Wow, this looks a lot more desolate than the deserts here in AZ! Impressive. Did you get a chance to look at the stars while you were away from the city?

  2. , but everything has it's own beauty. There is NO farmland here, so everything has to be shipped in and is very expensive. It wasn't dark enough to see any stars on the field trip, but last night I was down on the beach and saw one star! Love, mom

  3. What happened to my last comment?
It started out as: Desolate is a good word for the countryside around Aktau, but everything has it's own beauty.

  4. Hi Rachel! Thanks for the pics of the rocks. :o) Looks like gypsium (sp) We went to homecoming at Alva - took Mersadies and ian to the parade Sat. am and later to petting zoo and bouncing stuff. Fun, building memories. I worked on their backyard Friday filling in holes that the dogs had dug. Good exercise! Can't wait to hear what you do for Halloween and then your birthday!! Love you so much, Rose
